In force for 2 years, the PLU of Bethune will be replaced by a PLUi in 2026

The municipal Local Urban Plan (PLU) of Bethune has been in force since 2017. An intercommunal Local Urban Plan (PLUi) for the agglomeration community of Béthune-Bruay, Artois-Lys Romane is planned for 2026.

The rules and architectural constraints differ according to the zones set out in the Béthune PLU :

  • In the UA zone , which covers 36% of the town's plots and corresponds to the town centre of Béthune, the construction of housing, facilities, and business and service premises is authorised. Some heritage buildings are protected
  • In the UB zone, which covers 62% of the plots in Béthune, it will be possible to build housing, offices and shops, particularly in the station area and in the Mont Liébaut area

The mayor of Béthune, Mr Olivier GACQUERRE, is surrounded by Mr René MARTIN, deputy town planning officer

First half destroyed during the First World War and then damaged again during the Second, the city has a rich architectural heritage. Nicknamed "Buridan's City", the city was the regional capital of culture in 2011.

The municipality of Béthune has authorised 6 building permits located mainly in the east of the town. They concern the creation of 25 individual dwellings and some collective dwellings.
