The PLUi wants to make Saint-Nazaire the "city of the quarter hour".
The inter-communal Local Urban Plan (PLUi) of Saint-Nazaire has been adopted. Its approval is planned for the first quarter of 2020. It currently covers 10 municipalities.
It provides for the construction of industrial buildings, residential accommodation, offices and shops. The aim is to ensure that every inhabitant has everything he or she needs within a quarter of an hour ("quarter-hour city"). Between 1,050 and 1,100 dwellings are to be produced each year until 2030.
Saint-Nazaire favours building in the city centre and on the coast
Saint-Nazaire is an industrial town but also a seaside town, so it is necessary to support the industries in place, while enhancing the coastline.
This translates into a strong development around the city centre and the D92 road. In addition to new housing, many offices, shops and craft premises are expected to be built along this axis.
The city continues to build social housing
Saint-Nazaire is a town with a very satisfactory social housing rate of 24%. The PLUi continues in this direction by imposing a percentage of social housing in almost the entire municipality as soon as a real estate project exceeds 1,000 or 2,000 m² of floor area.
A forthcoming construction project for 1,300 homes
The city has a flagship project for the coming years: the transformation of the site of the former Moulin du Pé Hospital. It is planned to reuse the existing buildings and create new ones to achieve a minimum density of 40 dwellings per hectare, i.e. a total of approximately 1,300 dwellings.
