Pontarlier's PLU should be replaced by a PLUi this year

The Local Urban Plan (PLU) of Pontarlier dates from 2011. An intercommunal Local Urban Plan (PLUi) for the community of communes of Grand Pontarlier is currently being drawn up and should be approved in the second quarter of 2020.

The rules and architectural constraints differ according to the zones set out in the Pontarlier PLU:

  • The UA zone, which covers 10% of the town's plots, corresponds to the historic centre of Pontarlier and has a high number of dwellings. The UB zone, which covers 13% of the town's plots and surrounds the UA zone, favours the construction of housing while allowing the construction of shops, offices and other facilities.
  • The UC and UD zones, which respectively account for 15% and 32% of the plots in Pontarlier, also house a majority of dwellings and allow other types of construction.
  • The N and A zones, which cover 32% and 13% of the town's plots respectively, correspond to the natural and agricultural areas of Pontarlier and are therefore protected.

The mayor of Pontarlier, Mr Patrick GENRE, is surrounded by Mr Christian POURNY, deputy town planning officer

Located at an altitude of over 800 metres in the Jura mountains, it is the second highest town in France after Briançon. Famous worldwide for its absinthe, it is linked to the Swiss town of Val-de-Travers for the Absinthe Route. Pontarlier is part of the network Les Plus Beaux Détours de France.

The population of Pontarlier is made up of both young and old people, with 28% of inhabitants under 25 years of age and 28% retired. On the other hand, the number of inhabitants is decreasing, with a demographic growth of-1% per year.

No collective building permits have been granted recently in Pontarlier.
