Nîmes' recently revised PLU will increase the city's housing production

The revised Local Urban Plan (PLU) of Nîmes was approved in 2018 and provides for the creation of 850 housing units per year to meet the demographic growth envisaged between 2025 and 2030.

Nîmes is a city ideally situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains of the Cévennes. It has an exceptional cultural heritage which makes it a " city of art and history". Known for its férias, festivals and 300 days of sunshine a year, the city attracts many visitors during the summer months. With a population of 150,000, its economic dynamism and quality of life make Nîmes a city with sustained demographic growth, higher than the national average.

The permitted building heights in the city centre are detailed in the Plan de Sauvegarde et de Mise en Valeur (PSMV).

The town has many reserved sites, notably in the Costières, Route d'Arles, Saint-Césaire-les-Nîmes, Carémeau, Vacquerolles, Garrigues, 3 Ponts and Courbessac districts. They are mainly intended for roadworks or collective works.

The city of Nîmes has an urban right of pre-emption on the central part of the territory, i.e. one third of the commune, between the A9 motorway "La Languedocienne" and the Bois des Espeisses.

The municipality has authorised 70 building permits for the construction of mainly collective housing and some individual housing.
